The 3,100

Appeal for Courage

As of this writing, 3,100 active duty military men and women have signed the Appeal For Courage petition calling on Congress to support the mission in Iraq and to stop hindering the war effort.

More than half of those who have signed are or have served in Iraq.

The wording of the Appeal is:

As an American currently serving my nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to fully support our mission in Iraq and halt any calls for retreat. I also respectfully urge my political leaders to actively oppose media efforts which embolden my enemy while demoralizing American support at home. The War in Iraq is a necessary and just effort to bring freedom to the Middle East and protect America from further attack.

The petition was presented to congress on Wednesday, May 9, almost two weeks ago. So far the Nightly News hasn’t shown much interest in sharing this story with the public.

NewsBusters.org: Will ’60 Minutes’ Report ‘Appeal for Courage’ Pro-Iraq War Petition?

In February, CBS’ “60 Minutes” did a segment gushing over an anti-Iraq war petition called “Appeal For Redress” signed by about a thousand members of the military.

On Wednesday, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars presented Congress a petition signed by 2,700 current and former service members expressing support of the nation’s actions in Iraq.

As this movement was in direct response to “Appeal For Redress,” it is safe to assume that “60 Minutes” will be interviewing some of these brave souls in an upcoming program, right?

Update Recent messages from American soldiers:

Lt. Col. Mark: “Don’t let the news media convince you that we are losing.”

Marine Sgt. Baker M. Brooks: “The American public has lost sight of the true war that we are fighting.”

Col. Marc, inside the Green Zone: “What I think is that the news media likes to make the public weary of the war. They constantly mis-state the situation and constantly speak of the weariness.”

America Alone

Europe 2030

Mark Steyn says much of what we know as the free world is not going to survive this century. Stories like these make you wonder if he is right.

From Journal Chrétien: Islam Is Taking A Grip On Europe

WETZLAR — Islam is slowly but surely taking a grip on the European culture, warns the German journalist and university lecturer Udo Ulfkotte. Traditional values, customs and judicial standards are gradually customized to meet Muslim requirements.

As Ulfkotte explained at a meeting of Christian Democrats in Wetzlar, March 8, more and more institutions are making allowances for Muslims. Many banks, he said, are abandoning the so-called piggy banks, because they are afraid of losing Muslim customers. Muslims regard the pig as an unclean animal.

German butchers who sell pork are targeted by Muslim extremists, according to Ulfkotte. Muslims occasionally spit on sausages on sale at open-air markets.

In some European cities Muslim taxi drivers refuse to transport dogs, even blind persons with guide dogs. Two schools in Berlin have installed two separate entrances – one for German Christians and Jews and the other for Muslim Arabs and Turks.

And in case you missed it, to avoid offending Muslims, British schools are removing the Holocaust from history lessons.

Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.

It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.

There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem - because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.

The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history ‘as a vehicle for promoting political correctness’.

The study, funded by the Department for Education and Skills, looked into ‘emotive and controversial’ history teaching in primary and secondary schools.

It found some teachers are dropping courses covering the Holocaust at the earliest opportunity over fears Muslim pupils might express anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class.

Bush Derangement Syndrome Becoming Epidemic

Moonbat Hats

Survey: 22% of American voters suffer from mental illness.

Democrats in America are evenly divided on the question of whether George W. Bush knew about the 9/11 terrorist attacks in advance. Thirty-five percent (35%) of Democrats believe he did know, 39% say he did not know, and 26% are not sure.

Republicans reject that view and, by a 7-to-1 margin, say the President did not know in advance about the attacks. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 18% believe the President knew and 57% take the opposite view.

Overall, 22% of all voters believe the President knew about the attacks in advance.

About this cartoon:

The above cartoon is an updated version of this one by Dr. Seuss from 1941. Dr. Seuss- Ostrich Hats

Leading up to World War II, Dr. Seuss ripped the America First isolationist/anti-war movement almost daily. It would be interesting to see what kinds of cartoons Dr. Seuss would be turning out if he were still with us today.

As for Dr. Seuss’ original caption: “We always were suckers for ridiculous hats.” This might have been the earliest known sighting of a moonbat hat.

No Surrender

Veto Pen

On Tuesday President Bush vetoed a bill sent to him by the democrat controlled congress which would have set a scheduled timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq. There is a story behind the pen he used for the occasion.

WASHINGTON-When President Bush vetoed legislation that would have pulled U.S. troops out of Iraq, he did so with a pen from the father of an Ohio Marine killed in Iraq.

Bush signed the veto Tuesday night with the pen, given to him by Robert Derga, the father of Marine Corps Reserve Cpl. Dustin Derga, who was killed in Iraq on May 8, 2005.

The elder Derga, of Uniontown, Ohio, spoke with Bush two weeks ago at a meeting the president had with military families at the White House. Derga asked Bush to promise to use the pen in his veto.

On Tuesday, Derga contacted the White House to remind Bush to use the pen, and so he did. The 24-year-old Dustin Derga served with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion 25th Marines from Columbus, Ohio. The five-year Marine reservist and fire team leader was killed by an armor-piercing round in Anbar province.
